Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies
The Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies [AIALS] is a Centre of Excellence for inter-disciplinary research and higher studies in law. Established in June 2003 by the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation [RBEF], AIALS is a constituent unit of the Amity University Uttar Pradesh which is a full-fledged statutory university established and governed by an Act of the UP Legislature and recognized by the UGC.
The Asia-Europe Institute has successfully established itself as one of Southeast Asia’s leading institutions for social science postgraduate research and teaching. Established under the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process with a philosophy of enhancing Asia-Europe relations, AEI aims to foster exchange of students and scholars with a view to develop better understanding of the cultures, histories, politics, institutions, economics, business and legal practices of both regions.
Duncan Black Macdonald Center
The Duncan Black Macdonald Center is an academic unit within Hartford Seminary dedicated to scholarly research, teaching, publication and communication with the public. The Center is responsible for the Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations component of the Seminary’s MA and PhD programs, and the Muslim Chaplaincy program. Named for one of the nation’s early, pre-eminent scholars of Islam, the Macdonald Center is the country’s oldest center for such study. Academic courses taught through the Macdonald Center cover a range of topics, including Islamic history, law and theology; study of the Qur’an, sunnah and hadith; contemporary social and political movements; Christian-Muslim relations in their historical and current contexts; Sufism; Arabic; and comparative religion. Professors Ingrid Mattson, Yahya Michot, Mahmoud Ayoub and Steven Blackburn base their teaching on their on-going research, and have published in a broad spectrum of subjects.
Griffith Islamic Research Unit
The Griffith Islamic Research Unit (GIRU) was established in 2005 as part of the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance at Griffith University, to undertake research on Islamic and Muslim issues in an Australian and global context. The Key Centre is one of the premier research centres in Australia, examining issues concerning crime, justice, ethics and governance.
ICLARS is an international network of scholars and experts of law and religion. ICLARS aims to become the reference point and liason for all who are interested in the international and comparative dimensions of the relations between states and religions. To reach this objective, ICLARS regularly organizes conferences, publishes a newsletter and through its website provides updated information about the association.
The International Center for Law and Religion Studies at BYU works with scholars, government leaders, nongovernmental groups, and religious organizations from a variety of countries and faith traditions, to promote religious liberty and study the relations between governments and religious organizations.
International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT)
The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is a private, non-profit, academic, cultural and educational institution, concerned with general issues of Islamic thought and education. The Institute was established in the United States of America in 1981 (1401 AH). It is independent of local politics, party orientations and ideological bias. The headquarters of the Institute are situated in Herndon, Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington DC. IIIT has established cooperation with a number of institutions and organizations in a number of capitals world-wide in order to carry out the Institute’s activities and programs. The Institute is governed by a Board of Trustees that meets regularly and periodically elects one of its members to serve as President.
The Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), Malaysia’s premier think-tank was established on April 8, 1983. As an autonomous and non-profit organisation, ISIS is engaged in objective and independent policy research and fosters dialogue and debate among the public sector, the private sector and academia. ISIS Malaysia’s five central areas of interest are: Defence, Security and Foreign Affairs; National and International Economic Affairs; Nation-Building; Science, Technology, Industry, Energy and Natural Resources; and International Understanding and Cooperation.
The Institute of Ethnic Studies was officially established on the 8th of October 2007, on the date when its Founding Director, Professor Shamsul A.B., was appointed to occupy the post by the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, or National University of Malaysia [UKM]. It is the only full-fledged research institute in Malaysia focusing specifically on ‘ethnic studies.’ Although, academically, KITA has a ‘thematic studies’ orientation, it, however, draws its strength from both ‘disciplinary studies’ as well as ‘area studies,’ thus encouraging cross-disciplinary activities, involving three major sectors within the society, namely, the public, the private, and the community sectors. Thus KITA adopts an inclusivist approach in conducting its activities.
