Abu Salihu Hj. Mohamed Shariff – Consultant

Hj. Abu Salihu was attached to IAIS-Malaysia in 2008 as a Consultant for Islamic Finance and Banking, Investment Management, and Corporate Governance. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) in Business Administration (1971), and a Post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration (Credit) (1974) from the University of Malaya. He obtained his Master of Management (M.M.) from the Asian Institute of Management; and completed advanced management training at the University of Manchester (UK) and at Georgetown University’s International Law Institute (Washington D.C.). He is currently a Director in the public-listed GPRO Technologies Bhd.

Activities & Experience: He has over thirty-four years of consultancy experience in the public and private sectors and international organisations, as well as country experience in more than thirty countries. At Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance from 1995—1999 he headed the ‘Banking, Capital Markets & Multilateral Banks Section’; and retired as Director of the ‘Treasury Housing Loans Division’ in 2003. Abu Salihu has served as a director in PNB controlled companies in the finance and property sectors; and on Boards of various MOF Inc. Companies including Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd, Malaysian Airlines Bhd, as well as of public enterprises such as the Port Authorities, Utilities, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). He taught Management, Finance and Public Policies at the National Institute of Public Administration, University of Technology MARA, the University of Technology Malaysia, Public Health Institute, Armed Forces Staff College, and the Police College. He served on the Court of University of Malaya; as a council member of the Malaysian Institute of Management; and as an Executive Director for Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Suriname from 2000—2006 at the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

Current Projects are a Comparative Study of Zakat and Income Tax (ongoing research at IAIS); & Cash Wakaf Management and Development.
