Advertisement for Research Fellows
IAIS Malaysia invites postgraduate researchers and PhD holders in Islamic disciplines and comparative religion to apply for the post of Research Fellow at the Institute in Kuala Lumpur. IAIS is an independent organisation, established to undertake objective academic and policy research into the various aspects of Islam and contemporary issues.
Post
Research Fellow with the principal assignment to conduct high calibre research on Islam and contemporary issue, develop the intellectual and academic aspects of Islam Hadhari and formulate policy recommendations for government actors, Quangos, and NGOs.
Research and Projects
* Formulate and develop research proposals and projects that advance the objectives of IAIS
* Develop new concepts and ideas that penetrate issues, widen the scope of intellectual understanding and inform policy
* Assess, interpret and evaluate the outcomes of research, and develop ideas for the application of research outcomes
* Monitor and analyse developments in the external environment
* Contribute to the development and management of the annual plans, propose medium and long term strategies of concern to the Research Fellow’s unit and project
* Participate in fundraising and networking activities of IAIS, seek sponsorships and contributions that help to finance the Fellow’s proposed research.
Project Management
* Take responsibility for the administrative and financial management of research
* Liase with and report to donors, manage budgets and consultants and the inputs of other project partners
* Manage work of the staff working on the Research Fellow’s own projects, network and coordinate with other staff of IAIS
* Organise research briefing sessions and colloquia on the progress of research
Policy Recommendation
* Author research reports, policy briefs and other documents for publication
* Disseminate the results of research through peer reviewed channels, print and electronic media, meetings and conferences
* Respond to ad hoc media requests in area of specialisation
* Sit on advisory committees for other research and advisory work, within and outside IAIS
Other contributions
Contribute to the Institute’s work environment through:
* Working papers, research studies, briefing papers and journals
* Discussion groups, lunchtime meetings, staff meetings, working groups, interviews, external representation
* Peer review and guidance to colleagues and/or other group outputs
* Provide intellectual mentoring for less experienced research staff and support them as they begin to lead projects of their own
