IAIS Malaysia & Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) will convene a One-Day Forum highlighting Islamic teachings on Peace & Security from Islamic perspectives. Seven speakers offer presentations addressing theoretical and pragmatic issues on how Islam conceives of peaceful relations within society, and harmonious relations between nations.

Venue: IDFR, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jalan Wisma Putra, 50460 Kuala Lumpur.  [IDFR Location Map]

Date: 4rth October 2011 (Tuesday)

Time: 09:00am - 04:30pm

This Forum bridges theoretical and pragmatic themes, exploring higher objectives of Peace and Security in Islam. It offers resources for resolving conflicts within societies, and promoting humane and peaceable conditions. As the first public event in our Peace-Security & Islam programme, the Forum affirms Malaysia’s concern to promote realistic engagement with Islamic Peace & Security issues. Results may include a working list of policy-related goals applicable across a range of Muslim societies, and a published monograph.

Close study of Islamic religious, intellectual and spiritual traditions demonstrates that Peace and Islam are conceptually joined, and may be implemented in practice. Islam offers a path to strive for peace, justice and reconciliation in the world by which we may also strive for eternal peace and security in the presence of our Creator. Muslims may uncover, renovate and innovate peace-making practices that realistically embody Islamic ideals people commonly acknowledge yet too frequently ignore in their actual conduct of life. Our ‘Peace-Security & Islam Programme’ seeks the integration of theory and practice, aiming at more adequate applications of Islamic values for human wellbeing and security.

One who acknowledges the virtue of an old man and honours him for his age, God will save him from the fright of the Day of Resurrection. Honouring a Muslim with white hair partakes in Glorifying the Majesty of God. (hadith)
