Science, Technology, Environment & Ethics (31)

The Topics gathered here address pressing issues in Environmental Sciences, Medical & Biological Ethics, urban design and food production, enlightened use of Technology for human wellbeing, as well as re-thinking the function and role of Knowledge and Rationality from Islamic perspectives. Muslim thinkers and professionals must enrich the boundaries of contemporary ‘Islamic’ discourse by creatively drawing nourishment from their profound ethico-spiritual heritage and authentic rational–epistemic roots. This journey may potentially contribute to the emergence of a genuine Islamic alternative which integrates cosmology, soul-science, human-oriented technologies, and sustainable knowledge applications promoting a truly universal science which recognizes the transcendent source of Life.

Hikmah

Thus We have made of you a community justly balanced that you might be witnesses over the nations and the Messenger a witness over yourselves (Q 2:143)

Quotable Quotes

Ali b Abi Talib stated, "You will not know the truth by (looking at the) men. Know the truth first then you will know who really possesses it." (Al-Qaradawi, al-Sahwah al-Islamiyyah, 107)

Humour Without Malice

Mullah Nasruddin had lost his ring, so he set out to search for it under the street light. Others came to help him search. Finally when asked if he was certain he had dropped it in this spot, he said, "No, I lost it there," and pointed to his house. The others asked incredulously: "Then why are you looking for it here?" The Mullah said, while trying to look clever: "Because it is dark where I lost it, and it is light out here!"
