Vision
IAIS Malaysia aims to become a centre of excellence in research on Islam and contemporary issues. It focuses in particular on selected areas of research including the intellectual development of Islam Hadhari and the Islamic principles and doctrines on which it is founded.
Mission
IAIS Malaysia strives to:
- Promote better understanding of Islam Hadhari and its vision for development and progress.
- Advance the role of Islam as the foundation of Malaysian pluralism – ethnic, religious, and cultural – and Malaysia's societal and civilisational development.
- Research subjects and areas of contemporary relevance and formulate policy recommendations for government actors, Quangos, and NGOs.
- Interact with government and ministry representatives on how to implement the suggested policies.
- Advance balanced, moderate and comprehensive interpretations of Islamic principles through creative ijtihad informed by the goals and objectives (maqasid) of the Shari’ah.
- Address and rectify misrepresentations of Islam through colloquia, publications and other media.
- Promote a better understanding of Islam's universal teachings and its commitment to international harmony and peace, especially through engagement in interfaith and inter-civilisational dialogue that fosters harmony among the people of Malaysia and between the people of Malaysia and other nations.
